Dowsing, a scientific approach to a dimension misunderstood, misrepresented and most understudied of all windows of knowledge available to man! Is dowsing a mental paranormal exercise or is dowsing an energy similar to unseen infrared rays within the light spectrum that can be explained scientifically? Over time there has been some noted dowsers of little record, Leonardo De Vinci, Albert Einstein, Robert Boyle (father of modern chemistry), Charles Richet (Nobel prize winner), Field Marshall Erwin Rommel (German Army), General George Patton, Edgar Casey, Major General J. Scott Elliot (Scotland) and some famous dowsers of lengthy record: Abby Mermet, John Mullins, Pierre Beasse, Le Vicomte Henry De France, Abby Bouly, Samuel (Lobo)Wolf, Henry Gross, Evelyn Penrose, Raymond J. Poppelman, Vernon Cameron, Jack Livingston, Dwin Gordon, Harold & Jarold Eaststep, Louis Matacia, Carl Bracey, Leroy Bull and Paul H. Smith, Army Intelligence Officer, Retired. The latter dowsers from this list have contributed to the discovery and practice of radiesthesia with their lifelong work and documentation. These men have all become noted for dowsing a problem and having correct solutions greater than the law of averages. Only four dowsers in the list above are alive today.

Dowsing, a magnetic sense of humans, (a sixth sense) defined as biolocation, allows the body to receive diamagnetic and paramagnetic signals from any object that the dowser chooses to focus upon.

Dowsers are radiesthesiologists who have a natural affinity to locate items, natural resources, people, animals or solutions to problems with the help of tools known as a dowsing rod, L rods, pendulum, wand or bobber. A few dowsers can dowse without tools and are called deviceless dowsers. These dowsers are not witchers, warlocks, witches, diviners or spiritualist! They have just learned a system of deciphering an energy that is everywhere on the earth. Dowsing a matter of objectivity is futile. Each session must include dowsing a question that can be answered with a “yes” or “no”. Outer Space dowsing has not been verified at the time of this printing, however innerspace (diving underwater) dowsing has proved to be just as accurate as land dowsing.

Dowsing is claimed by many and mastered by a small handful. The title of “Master Dowser” has been assumed by many using the credentials of longevity as the basis for acclaim. These self appointed “masters” may have little success to substantiate the title but point to “umpteen” years or more of getting rod or pendulum response as evidence that they know how to dowse. On the other hand there are many self taught Master Dowsers that have better skills and more successes than seminar instructors of dowsing. Master dowsers are known for their record of successes, not self accreditation.

Almost anyone can propel a pendulum or hold an “L” rod and retrieve a “yes” or “no” response. Children are the best and quickest students of dowsing. Artifacts are one of the easiest items to dowse. Finding lost people or treasure is on the most difficult end of the dowsing spectrum. Earlier it was mentioned that different facets of dowsing resembled the different rays in the light spectrum. Some light rays are realized with the 5 senses and the rest are only identifiable with specialized filters and electronic equipment. Dowsing, a gift very similar to the complexity of photographing full spectrum light, uses all of the five senses and some yet to be scientifically named.

Dowsing criteria and tools differ immensely with each subject, object, matter or beings that are searched for by the dowsers. A dowser that is a master at locating water wells may know absolutely nothing about dowsing for your lost pet. Only a few people have mastered all facets of dowsing.

Dowsing a map or for a lost article is a simple quest of asking the mind to solve the question while being fully awake instead of “sleeping on it”.

Dowsing rod singularly used or a pair of dowsing rods usually identify a dowser working the field for a water well, oil well, mineral deposit, a lost item and even treasure. Dowsing rod also known as dowsing stick, divining rod, “Y” Rod, doodlebug, dowsing scepter, dowsing wand and dowsing bobber are dowsing tools used every day by dowsers worldwide. Dowsing rods are used by dowsers to assist them in reaching a decision, usually a “yes”/“no” answer regarding the finding of lost or unseen items. Dowsing rods can be L rods, metal rods formed into the shape of an “L”, a wand sometimes called a bobber which has a handle with a limber stem protruding from it and a weighted tip to accentuate the bouncing action of the wand, a forked stick made from a living tree limb resembling the letter “Y” of the alphabet or from fiberglass rods such as the tips of fishing poles, bound on two of the rod ends to form a “V” or “Y” with a very short leg.

Dowsing rods are the tools to manifest science and natural forces or laws of nature that are not picked up by our 5 senses. Infrared light, x-ray and gamma rays of light were thought to be forms of divination or spiritual or non-existent until electronic equipment verified that these were unseen light rays of the full light spectrum, yet very real and now scientifically sound.

Users of dowsing rods are made up of three categories; natural scientific users, spiritualist/ psychics and novices. We have no beef with either of the last two categories, one we don’t understand and the other may get their act together if they realize that study, hard work correct practice and a knowledgeable tutor will improve their abilities. This compilation does dot try to explain, endorse or refute spiritualistic or occult divination as this practice is clearly not dowsing as presented here.

Special dowsing rods have evolved through experimentation and combined tests by noted dowsers such as Vern Cameron, Sam “Lobo” Wolf and Al Rossmiller. Some of these dowsing rods are built with a witness, “Bait”, chamber that allows the dowser to place a similar matter in the chamber of the rod as the dowser is searching for. The theory is that the dowsing rod will have a greater affinity for the searched target if the correct bait is in the chamber. The dowsing rod is used to “sweep” the area slowly until the dowsing rod locks onto the searched target.

The “Y” dowsing rod locks onto the target of water, oil or artifacts by pivoting in the dowser’s hand until the single end points directly down into the ground. The “L” rods will cross each other when the dowser walks over the buried target. The single “L” rod will point ahead until the target is reached then if the dowser continues to walk, the rod will pivot 180° pointing back to the passed target.

The wand (bobber) dowsing rod will bounce up and down (initiated by the dowser) until a question is asked. If the wand starts to circle clockwise at the tip, the answer is “yes”. If the wand circles counter clockwise, the question was not precise, or a “no”. If the wand continues to bounce vertically up and down and does not circle in either direction the answer is a definite “no”. Always start your sequence of dowsing by asking for a “yes,” then ask for a “no” and then note the responses and apply them to all dowsing of that project.

Dowsing rods react to an energy that is synonymous to the target. Energy rays such as the goz emanating from the center of the earth at a 45° angle are disturbed by caverns, tunnels, disturbed earth, water, minerals and metals. The dowsing rods react to these anomalies as well as human and animal bodies. The sex of a buried body can be dowsed with a single “L” rod balanced on your right index finger. A clockwise rotation is a male, counter clockwise female, the energy that was picked up to ascertain this 100% correct answer… unknown at this time. It is known however, that if you ask a person to lie on the ground, and use the same procedure outlined above, that the results for determining the sex will be confirmed.

Pendulum dowsing has been the choice of master dowsers for hundreds of years. The dowsing pendulum is compact, discrete and very accurate. Your dowsing pendulum can be made of almost anything that has mass enough to swing as a pendulum should. Metal, crystal, plastic, cork, ring, rock and string or chain creates a dowsing pendulum immediately. If you use wood for your pendulum, only use foreign wood to your location as a native local wood may not respond freely.

Pendulum dowsing is used by scientists, health professionals, map dowsers, remote viewing dowsers, professional dowsers and those beginning to dowse. The pendulum starts in a motionless position or a moving position. The dowser requests an example of “yes” then “no”. When a question is asked that can only be answered with a “yes” or “no”, the pendulum will respond within 1-2 seconds in the manner it demonstrated at the beginning example. A dowsing pendulum “yes” is usually a clockwise circular motion of the pendulum, (each dowser ascertains what his/her specific “yes” motion will be). Pendulum dowsing is thought to divulge optimum results in the morning, with the dowser facing East.

Pendulum dowsing usually requires that the dowser “balance” or tune the pendulum to his/her project. When you purchase or make your pendulum, try to have the string or chain at least 6” long. Take a cylindrical object such as a short pencil or stick and wind your pendulum string or chain around the pencil until you have about 2” from the finger tips of your right hand thumb and index finger. Point the thumb and finger down that is holding the pendulum string and extend your other 3 fingers out to form an antenna. Swing the pendulum over the object dowsed or concerning the matter to dowse and ask if the pendulum is “balanced” to the subject being dowsed. If the pendulum does not end by swinging in a clockwise circle, unwind the string/chain a little and repeat the question. Dowsing tools are divided into four categories. Pendulums, L rods, Y rods, and wands/bobbers are the basic dowsing tools. Many variations of each can be found in every culture for thousands of years. There is another form of tool which is your body that is used as a dowsing tool. A finger, arm, combination of both and your mind can be integrated into a dowsing sequence without the basic four dowsing tools previously mentioned.

The oldest, most commonly recognized dowsing tool is the Y rod. The Y rod can be cut from green tree limbs to form a “Y” or a Y rod can be made by tying to limber rods together on one end. The Y rod can be of metal, plastic or fiberglass as long as it is flexible. This dowsing tool is most commonly used to find underground water for a well. The Y rod is used as a preference of the dowser for what ever he or she desires to dowse.

The L Rod dowsing tool can be made of most metals but are usually made of copper, brass or steel covered with copper. A quick inexpensive L rod set can be made of metal coat hangers, straightened and then re-bent at 1/3 for a handle and 2/3 for the rod, cutting off the hook and spirals. The L Rod can be used alone or in tandem, one in each hand. When an item is located the L Rods should cross each other over the sought after target. The preference of the dowser comes into play with this dowsing tool. Some will say that one rod cancels the other and negates the target while other dowsers will tell you that the convenience of having the rods cross is a time saving benefit that warrants using both rods at the same time. As you develop your dowsing skills, you will find what works for you is more important than what another dowser is doing.

The pendulum is another common compact dowsing tool that you can take anywhere. A pendulum can be made of any material, wood, metal, crystal, glass or stone. The pendulum may be suspended by thread, string or chain as long as it is flexible and long enough to adjust for length (“balance”) for each item dowsed for. The pendulum is fast becoming the dowsing tool of choice.

The dowsing wand or “bobber” is a dowsing tool that can be used with one hand, leaving the other hand free. The dowsing rod has a handle, a flexible rod that comes out of the handle and a weight on the terminating end of the rod. A good dowser may have their dowsing tool of choice, but they will be proficient in all of the dowsing tools.

Deviceless dowsing means that the dowser can ascertain a “yes”/”no” response using their fingers,arms or just their minds. Although this is very convenient when you need a dowsing answer and you do not have access to your dowsing tools, some have suggested that they do not receive as accurate responses as they do with their standard dowsing tools. It is maintained that with correct practice your percentage of successful dowsing responses will continue to increase regardless of the dowsing tools that you use.

Treasure Map is in your possession and you just haven’t recognized it! For example if your Uncle Jack had a 160 acre farm on which he buried gold & silver coins that no one has found since he died, then you have a treasure map. Get a map, plot, hand sketch, or Google Earth image of the 160 acres and a Map Dowser can show you where the coins are hidden, even without any identifying gps points or waypoints.

The treasure map can be anywhere and available to you! First secure a map of the area or if these resources are not available to you, then hand draw the map as accurate as possible. Be sure to include landmarks that are on the land now. Once you identify that there is a credible treasure, a map dowser can dowse “If the treasure is recoverable by you” and locate the treasure on your map. The depth of the treasure (if buried) can be ascertained by biolocation.

Converting your treasure map to a spot on the map that you may explore and recover is simple yet it is critical to follow the instructions of the map dowser. If you are going to send us your map to dowse, here is the sequence that must be followed:

1. List your complete name and relationship to the treasure story. i.e. My Uncle Jack hid his money on the farm and I inherited it. Or, My Uncle Jack is in a nursing home and his son Mike is managing his affairs and Mike and I have joined in an agreement to find the treasure.
2. Are you authorized to recover the treasure? (yes) or (no) This one is SIMPLE!
If you are requesting for another person who is authorized to recover, then that is the name that should be sent. If you are not authorized to recover, forget about it!
3. Do you know that there is or was a real treasure?
Family stories, legends and hearsay are fine as long as you feel the evidence is real and that originally there was genuine treasure to warrant a treasure map.
4. What was the name of the person that hid the treasure?
This information is critical. If you don’t know the name then a description of the person must be included, such as: “peanut farmer that owned this land in the 1950s.” Or, “bachelor that worked at the sawmill who lived in this house in 1923.” Or, “widow that came here to live in 1971.” (Send as much info as you can supply on the individual that supposedly hid the treasure.)
5. Send as accurate a treasure map as you can supply, of smallest area possible. The more accurate the treasure map the more accurate the results. If the treasure hider owned a 160 acre farm send a map of the 160 acres. If the lady owned a lot in town, send a map of the entire lot showing the house and outbuildings. Sometimes the treasure is not buried but hidden above ground. The map dowser will be able to tell if the treasure is hidden in a wall or under the house.
6. Treasure maps can include lakes, streams, ocean, barren ground, mountains or lots. Your knowledge of the treasure and the history coupled with the map dowsing can save a tremendous amount of time and money when it comes time to recover.
7. Copy these seven steps and email (using form below) written answers to each question or statement. The dowser will dowse the questionnaire first before asking for the treasure map. If you are concerned about the location of the treasure map being revealed, then remove all identifying location marks from the map before you send it. Leaving the position or marking the position of North would help but is not critical.

Map dowsing is sometimes called teleradiesthesia, a process that a dowser uses to find water wells, oil, mineral ores or treasure using a map to pinpoint the location without traveling to the site. The map dowser will use a pendulum or rod to help locate the area. The Bahamas used rain water as their main drinking source until Henry Gross dowsed the water well sites that continue to supply water today, from his home table in the states. Abby Mermet, a monk in France, used teleradiesthesia to find oil and gas wells in South America without ever setting foot outside of France. Accuracy for these two men was 90%.

Herein lies the treasure dowser’s poem. Only if you own a shovel and have dug the many false holes could you possibly understand these pearly words of wit.

However, after understanding that the rods never lie when you stand over the true quest, we dowse on. It matters not that we are not 100%, because the payoff is greater than what life gives us at 50%.
